What my reading group data is telling me

After analyzing my PAT data along with my Probe/Running Record data for one

of the groups in my class, I have established that they really struggle with the

comprehension of text in particular inferring meaning. As such I have used an inferring LO to focus on and my mentor teacher and I have co-constructed success criteria to support this which is shown below.

  1. Really good to see you analysing your PAT data and finding those trends, Cam. I think inferring is a core skill that many of our learners benefit from having regular practice with, especially as the curriculum deepens and widens.
We will be covering it in another day, but an interesting technique you might like to consider when it comes to key word is, instead of highlighting the ones you think are key, deleting/crossing out all those that aren't important. Then only the key words are left. Our team had a bit of a revelation when we talked about this together!

It has been great to see you considering the results from the PATs and your own running records to identify areas of development for your reading groups.
What I particularly like about the Korero Point England Podcasts is the authenticity the task provided. Having a meaningful audience to present to was a clear motivator for the students and their learning. I wonder how you could use this piece of information when you are creating your own Create tasks for the reading groups?
